One of the most spectacular coats from our archive. Made from resist-dyed and embroidered cotton with added mirrors throughout. Straight, boxy fit. Gorgeous metallic-embroidery buttons. Lined in purple silk.
These jackets were made from the late 19th century through the 1930s as souvenirs for Europeans on the "Grand Tour" of Mediterranean tourist sites. From our research, they appear to have been made in India using traditional fabrics and techniques but with Western European silhouettes, then imported to popular tourist sites such as Egypt and sold at stores for the wealthy (such as The Winter Palace at the Luxor Hotel).

Condition: Overall very good. The coat shows very light, normal wear. The original shattered silk lining has been replaced with silk matching the original purple as closely as possible.
